MVL/NUC girls win 1st South Central Conference indoor championship
MANKATO — The Minnesota Valley Lutheran/New Ulm Cathedral girls track and field team came out on top in the first-ever South Central Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday, winning the meet with a score of 107.
St. Clair/Immanuel Lutheran came in second (92.25), followed by Lake Crystal Wellcome Memorial/Nicollet (80.5), Le Sueur-Henderson (80.25), Sibley East (69) and Maple River (62). Maple River won the boys’ side of the meet with a 123, followed by LCWM/N (118), Sibley East (82), MVL/NUC (71), LSH (69) and St. Clair/Immanuel Lutheran (30).
For the MVL/NUC girls, Tiphany Dos Santos placed third in the 55-meter dash (8.22), while Juliet Langsjoen placed fifth in the 200 (30.59). Natalie Matzke placed fourth in the 1,000 (3:47.64). Davey Kamryn won the 55-meter low hurdles (9.72) while Claudia Weisensel placed fourth (9.99) Davey also took second in the 55-meter high hurdles (9.50) with Avery Freier taking third (9.79) and Weisensel placing fifth (9.96).
The 4×200 relay team of Freier, Avery Hopp, Davey and Dos Santos took first place (1:59.94), while Olivia Hammer took second on the high jump (4-6) and Raegan Tiegs tied for third (4-4). Davey took first in the triple jump (31-9) and Tiegs placed fifth (30-1). Jennarae Bates (32-5), Avery Hahn (32.1) and Mackenzie Frank (31-7) took second, third and fourth, respectively, in the shot put.
For the LCWM/N girls, Ireland Sargent placed fifth (8.31), while Savannah Klockziem placed first in the 200 (29.06), with Ellie Bergemann taking third (30.11). Bergemann took fifth in the 400 (68.23), while Chloe Sargent took fourth (2:45.66) and Jordan Jaci placed fifth (2:47.55) in the 800. Evie Jones (3:25.79) and Cora Johannes (3:45.13) placed second and third in the 1,000, while Jones took fifth in the 1,600 (5:42.95).
Klockziem placed second in the 55-meter low hurdles (9.77) and fourth in the 55-meter high hurdles (9.89) and also took fourth for the long jump (14-08), with Grace Sandmeyer taking fifth (13-10.5) in the long jump.
For the Sibley East girls, Audrey Ott placed fourth in the 55 (8.24), while Ruby Ballalatak took third in the 800 (2:38.51). Paige Gardiner won the 1,000 (3:23.37), with Nora Doehling coming in fifth (4:00.41). Gardiner placed third in the 1,600 (5:37.62).
The 4×800 relay team of Ella Doehling, Claire Bauer, Nora Doehling and Ballalatak took first (11:27.08), and Emme Eccles won the long jump (15-11.75) and Abigail Kuehn won the shot put (33-4).
For the MVL/NUC boys, Josh Bentler won the 55 (6.85) and placed second in the 200 (24.59). Jaden Helget took third in the 55 (6.99) and Austin Vee placed fourth in the 800 (2:25.70). Jeremy Feistner placed fifth in the 1,000 (3:07.62) and fifth in the 1,600 (5:05.17), while Tucker Kohls placed fifth in the 55-meter high hurdles (9.81) and intermediate hurdles (9.61). Helget placed third in pole vault (11-0) and Ben Riesgraf placed fourth in the long jump (18-02.25).
For the LCWM/N boys, Henry Oscarson placed second in the 400 (55.77), with Lucas Pietan coming in fifth (56.67). Charlie Gengler (2:17.01), Aiden Moeller (2:23.07) and Bo Maas (2:25.61) took the top three spots in the 800, with Gengler winning the 1,600 (4:52.01), with Riddick Schubbe taking fifth (5.23.84). Moeller placed third in the 55-meter high hurdles (8.82) and second in the 55-meter intermediate hurdles (8.6). The 4×400 relay team of Oscarson, Izaak Rodman, Talan Osborne and Gengler placed first (3.50.71), while Braxton Dudgeon placed fifth in the high jump (5-6). Levi Freyberg won the pole vault (13-06), and Dudgeon took third in the triple jump (39-8), with Rodman taking fifth (35-10). Drew Turgeon (42-06.5) and Emmett Rose (40-01) placed third and fourth, respectively, in the shot put.
For the Sibley East boys, Jackson Pomplun placed fourth in the 200 (25.17) and Gavin Pomplun placed first in the 400 (55.70). Julio Alejandro won the 1,000 (2:51.24), with Gage Horstman taking fourth (3:05.49). Aidan McCue took first in the 55-meter high hurdles (8.21).
The 4×800 relay team of Alejandro, Horstman, Mausten Krueger and Pomplun took first (9.13.94), while Paul Taaffee took fifth in the pole vault (8-6). McCue won the long jump (20) and the triple jump (43-04) for Sibley East.
