Weekend area roundup: Cougars win twice at SMSU tourney

Cedar Mountain goes 2-3 at SMSU tourney

MARSHALL — Cedar Mountain downed Luverne 25-22, 25-19 and Windom Area 25-21, 15-25, 19-17 but fell to Redwood Valle 25-15, 23-25. 15-10, Westbrook-Walnut Grove 25-21, 25-22 and Lakeview 25-23, 25-12 on Saturday’s volleyball tournament at Southwest Minnesota State University.

Reagyn Kleinschmidt had31 kills, 50 set assists and 32 digs for the Cougars, while Kendra Erickson had 50 kills, 33 set assists and 40 digs. Aubrey Steffl had 21 kills and 40 digs, while Brynn Hoffbeck had 55 digs. Sami Gruendemann had 17 kills and 27 digs, while Cloey Wildt had 16 kills and 30 digs.

PREP FOOTBALL

Windom 48, Wabasso 20

WABASSO — Windom Area rolled by Wabasso 48-20 in a South District, West-South Subdistrict football game Saturday.

Calvin Hanna led the Rabbits offense with 80 yards and 22 rushes, while Sam Zeug had two touchdowns on the ground. Zach Skoblik had 58 yards rushing with a touchdown, and Drew Kemp completed five of his 12 passes for 26 yards.

Defensivley, Zeug had eight total tackles with a sack, with Hanna also recording eight tackles. Mikale Goblirsch had seven tackles, and Caden Frericks and Nolan Hanson each had a sack. Nolan Leopold had an interception and three tackles.

Wabasso (2-4, 1-4) travels to Adrian-Ellsworth on Thursday.

Late Friday

Randolph 47, GFW 6

RANDOLPH — Randolph rolled Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop 47-6 in a Mid Southeast District, West Subdistrict football game on Friday.

Owen Swenson led the GFW offense with 53 yards on 17 carries, while Mason Ahlbrecht had 43 yards on 11 carries. Cayson Goeswich had the team’s lone touchdown on the ground.

On the defense, Mathew Lee had six tackles, while Swenson had four total tackles and a fumble recovery.

GFW (2-4, 2-4) hosts Cleveland on Thursday.
