Weekend roundup: Eagles tie Tigers in girls soccer

GIRLS SOCCER

New Ulm 3, Hutchinson 3

HUTCHINSON — New Ulm and Hutchinson played to a 3-3 draw Saturday in a nonconference girls soccer game.

Morgan Zimanski, Jesalyn Skoglund and Kaelyn Eikanger each had a goal for New Ulm, while Piper Kapolczynski had an assist.

New Ulm (6-6-1) hosts Southwest Minnesota Christian on Friday.

PREP VOLLEYBALL

Madelia goes 4-1-1 at St. Clair Tournament

ST. CLAIR — Madelia defeated West Lutheran 25-15, 25-19, Blue Earth Area 25-21, 25-17, and 19-25, 25-10 and downed St. Clair 23-25, 25-17, tied Mountain Lake Area 25-23, 24-26 and fell to Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s 18-25, 17-25 in Saturday’s prep volleyball tournament at St. Clair, finishing in third place.

Ashlynn Sweet led the team with 35 kills, 12 digs, eight blocks and five aces in the tournament, while Lauryn Grev had 16 kills, 36 digs and four aces. Makayla Sorenson had 13 kills, 20 digs and two aces, while Katherine DeVlaeminck had 12 kills and 4 total blocks. Alicia Lugo had 38 set assists and 14 aces, while Adrianne Missling had 27 set assists.

Madelia (10-12-1) travels to Martin County West on Thursday.

Cedar Mountain goes 1-2 at TCU tourney

MONTGOMERY — Cedar Mountain defeated Lester Prairie 22-25, 25-17 but fell to Lake Crystal Wellcome Memorial 25-20, 22-25 and Tri-City United 27-25, 23-25, 6-4 in Saturday’s prep volleyball tournament at TCU High School.

Reagyn Kleinschmidt had 28 kills, 33 set assists and 17 digs, while Kendra Erickson had 20 kills, 26 set assists and 24 digs. Aubrey Steffl had 15 kills and 26 digs, while Cloey Wildt had 13 kills and Brynn Hoffbeck had 21 digs.

Cedar Mountain (9-7) travels to Lester Prairie on Tuesday.

PREP CROSS COUNTRY

Springfield girls place first at Butterfield meet

BUTTERFIELD — The Springfield girls cross country team placed first during a prep cross country meet Saturday.

Marissa Pabst (20:45) led the girls by placing second, while Katie Thram (21:16) took third. Lydia Dauer (21:42) placed fifth, and Sylvia Hovland (22:16) placed 11th. Abby Groebner placed 13th with a time of 23:27, followed by Hazel Dauer (27:23) in 21st and Faith Bislew (28:45) in 23rd.

Matthew Groebner led the boys team to a fourth-place finish, running a 17:56 to place second. Dylan Dewitt (18:16) placed ninth, while Luka Fernandez (18:55) took 14th. Lucas Hensch placed 22nd with a time of 20:18, followed by Matt Fernandez (20:31) in 25th and Xavier Manderfeld (22:16) in 29th.

Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s/Sleepy Eye/New Ulm Cathedral also competed in the meet, with the boys team taking second place. Noah Christensen took fifth place, followed by Raul Rodriguez and Levi Hagen in sixth and seventh place, respectively. Max Fischer took 13th. For the SM/SE/NUC girls, Emma Hagen took fourth place while Millie Lax placed seventh.
