Three-run ninth lifts Sleepy Eye past Gibbon
GIBBON — The Sleepy Eye Indians broke a 3-3 tie with three runs in the top of the ninth to earn a 6-3 win over the Gibbon Reds on Saturday in a Tomahawk East League amateur baseball game.
Luke Mielke was 3 for 4 with a homer and three RBIs to lead the Indians, while Cody Schultz was 2 for 4 with a homer. Luke Mielke also got the win in three innings of relief, allowing no hits and three walks for no runs while striking out four.
Jake Mielke got the save, allowing no hits or walks and striking out one in the ninth. Marcus Martinez got the start for the Indians and allowed 10 hits and three walks for three runs while striking out one.
Kaden Rieke led Gibbon at the plate by going 2 for 3, while Brendan Kienlen was 2 for 5, Josh Wasmund had a homer and two RBIs and Nolan Huiras added a double. Layton Hamre took the loss on the mound in three innings of relief of Huiras, allowing four hits and three walks for four earned runs while striking out three. Huiras allowed seven hits and two walks for two runs in his six innings of work while striking out five.
