Price, Brown, Merseth lead All-Journal girls golfers

Sam Price, So., SEU

Price won both the Tomahawk Conference Tournament and the Section 2A Tournament this season on her way to a state tournament appearance. Price finished 22nd at state, shooting her best nine holes of the season with a 40 before her run was cut short by weather. On the season, Price averaged 47.04 shots per nine holes, lowest in the conference.

Jorga Brown, Fr., MVL

The Co-Tomahawk Conference medalist this season, Brown shot a nine-hole average of 47.7. Brown qualified for Day 2 of the Section 3AA tournament and was named the Co-Team MVP as a freshman.

Mackenzie Merseth, Sr., MVL

An All-Conference golfer for the second year, Merseth qualified for the second day of the Section 3AA tournament this season. The team captain and Co-Team MVP shot a nine-hole average of 50.4 during her senior year with the Chargers.

Mavri Winkelmann, 8th, Springfield

A state-qualifying golfer, Winkelmann averaged 51 shots per nine holes this season. Winkelmann also finished fourth in the Tomahawk Conference Tournament and fourth in the Section 2A Tournament to earn an All-Conference nod for the second time.

Jenna Schweiss, Sr., GFW

The top golfer for the GFW girls all season, Schweiss placed fifth at the Section 2A tournament to advance to the state tournament. Schweiss also placed fifth at the Tomahawk Conference Tournament, earning her third All-Conference selection. Schweiss shot a nine-hole average of 51.8 this season.

Elyse Dreckman, Sr.,

New Ulm

Dreckman qualified for Day 2 of sections for the second season as the New Ulm girls’ top golfer. Dreckman shot 52 nine-hole average this season and will be attending the University of Sioux Falls next fall.
