NEW ULM — The New Ulm Brewers spotted Gaylord a 5-0 lead in the top of the first inning before out-scoring the Islanders 16-1 in the next seven innings to come away with a 16-6 win Sunday in a non-league amateur baseball game at Johnson Park.

The game was stopped after eight innings because of the 10-run lead rule.

Adam Slander got the win for the Brewers, 6-0 on the season. He went five innings and gave up the five first-inning runs. He gave up seven hits.

Sam Ebert took the loss for Gaylord.

McKay Rodning and Nate Colling each had two hits for Gaylord.

Zach Hoffmann had two hits for the Brewers, who next host Fairfax at 7:30 p.m. Friday night at Johnson Park.

The Islanders plated five runs in the first, with Rodning, Travis Schmidt, Colling, Ebert and Brady Serbus getting RBIs.

New Ulm cut the lead in the bottom of the inning with three runs. Cole Ranweiler tripled and Trevor Nissen walked. An Andrew Peters single scored Ranweiler. An error and a two-run single from Ayden Jensen cut the lead to 5-3.

The Brewers then scored two runs in the fourth and three more in the fifth on five wild pitches to take an 8-5 lead.

Each team added a run in the sixth before the Brewers ended the game with a five-run eighth inning with three runs scoring on an infield error that made the score 16-6.
