Area roundup: Johnson, Weidman win twice at individuals

ST. PETER — New Ulm’s Maverick Johnson and Charlie Weidman defeated their first two opponents as a doubles team but fell in the semifinals in the Section 2AA Individual Boys Tennis Tournament on Friday.
Johnson and Weidman took down Worthington’s Bennett Oberloh and Dylan Dykstra 6-0, 6-0 in the first round, then defeated Mankato West’s Ian Kim and Jackson Muehlenhardt 6-4, 6-2 in round two. Mankato East’s Madden Vanderwerf and Quinn Kelly downed Johnson and Weidman 6-2, 7-6 in the semifinals.

MADELIA — No. 6 Madelia rolled by No. 11 BOLD 8-0 in the opening round of the Section 2A Baseball Tournament on Thursday.
Zach Jakobs got the win for Madelia, striking out 11 while allowing two hits and no walks. At the plate, Tate Becker was 2 for 4 with two RBIs and a run scored, while Tony Zaleski was 2 for 3 with an RBI and two runs scored. Jacobs added a hit and an RBI for the Blackhawks.
Madelia will play at No. 3 Sleepy Eye on Tuesday.
