PREP GOLF
MORTON — The New Ulm boys golf team placed fifth out of 12 teams during the Big South Conference Championship Monday, while the girls team placed ninth.
St. Peter led the boys side of the meet with a 305, followed by Marshall (309), Luverne (318), Waseca (324), New Ulm (328), Redwood Valley (331), Blue Earth Area (341), Jackson County Central (343), Pipestone Area (350), Windom Area (361), Fairmont (363) and Worthington (277).
BEA paced the girls with a 355, followed by Redwood Valley (359), Fairmont (383), Worthington (391), St. Peter (405), Marshall (407), Waseca (413), Luverne (428) and New Ulm (460). Pipestone Area, Windom Area and JCC were incomplete.
Luverne’s Henry Hartquist was the medalist for the boys with a 68. New Ulm’s Mason Buegler and Gavin Epper tied for 11th with an 81, while Brayden Wendinger and Will Fossen tied for 19th with an 83.
Redwood Valley’s Mila Jenniges placed first for the girls with a 71. New Ulm’s Elyse Dreckman placed 32nd with a 108, while Brooklyn Hagberg placed 37th with a 112.
PREP SOFTBALL
MVL 18, GFW 7 (5 innings)
WINTHROP — Minnesota Valley Lutheran beat Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop 18-7 in five innings in a Tomahawk Conference softball game on Monday.
The game was called after five innings due to the 10-run lead rule.
MVL was led by Karlee Prahl, who went 4 for 4 with two doubles and five RBIs, while Katlyn Stadick was 3 for 3 with a RBI and Ashlyn Rodewald was 4 for 5 with two doubles.
Stadick went five innings in the circle, giving up seven runs on six hits and three walks. She struck out five.
No stats were reported for GFW.
MVL (4-11, 3-9) will play Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart on Tuesday, while GFW ( 0-14, 0-12) will play Sibley East on Monday.
Wabasso 3, RTR 1
TYLER — Wabasso beat Russell-Tyler-Ruthton 3-1 in a nonconference baseball game on Monday.
Wabasso was led by Audrey Johnson, who went 2 for 4 with a RBI, while Avery Carlson was 1 for 3 with a double and Sara Carlson was 1 for 3 with a double.
Avery Carlson got the win in seven innings, giving up three hits and one walk. She struck out three.
Wabasso (14-4, 11-2) will play Jackson County Central on Thursday.
JCC 4, LCWM 3
JACKSON — Jackson County Central beat Lake Crystal Wellcome Memorial 4-3 in a nonconference softball game on Monday.
LCWM was led by Ella Voges, who had two hits.
Avery Voges got the loss on the mound going seven innings, giving up four runs on four hits and striking out 13.
LCWM will travel to Watertown-Mayer on Tuesday.
Springfield 3, Windom Area 2 (11 innings)
SPRINGFIELD — Springfield walked off Windom Area 3-2 in 11 innings in a nonconference softball game on Monday.
Springfield was led by Emma Hauger, who went 2 for 5 with a triple, while Rachel Beadell went 1 for 4 with a double and two RBIs.
Jalivia Richert got the win for the Tigers, going 11 innings and giving up two runs on seven hits and six walks. She struck out nine.
Springfield (12-7, 9-5) will play Red Rock Central/Westbrook-Walnut-Grove on Thursday.
St. Mary’s 6, BLHS 1
HECTOR — Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s beat Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart 6-1 in a Tomahawk Conference softball game on Monday.
St. Mary’s was led by Adelinde Hoffmann, who went 2 for 3 with a triple, while Neil Weiss went 2 for 3 and Kailey Nelson had a double.
Natalie Zarn got the win, going seven innings and giving up one run on two hits and two walks. She also struck out eight.
St. Mary’s (7-9, 6-7) will travel to Cleveland on Tuesday, while BLHS finished the season 2-8 in the Tomahawk Conference and 2-13 overall.

Sleepy Eye 6, Loyola 4
SLEEPY EYE — Sleepy Eye beat Loyola 6-4 in a nonconference baseball game on Monday.
Sleepy Eye was led by Gavin Strong, who went 2 for 3 with a double, while Cody Schultz went 1 for 3 with a double and Winsten Nienhaus went 1 for 3 with two runs.
Nienhaus also got the win on the mound, going six innings and giving up four runs on nine hits and three walks. He also struck out four.
Sleepy Eye (12-4, 11-3) will travel to Redwood Valley on Thursday.
Springfield 11, Windom 9
WINDOM — Springfield beat Windom 11-9 in a nonconference baseball game on Monday.
Springfield was led by Jackson Ludewig, who went 3 for 5 with two doubles and two RBIs, while Brecken Heiling went 3 for 4 with two RBIs and Jakob Nachreiner went 2 for 3 with two walks and two RBIs.
Ludewig also got the win on the mound in five innings, giving up eight runs on seven hits and three walks. He struck out five.
Springfield (14-2,10-2) will travel to BLHS for a double header on Tuesday.

HECTOR — Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s beat Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart 10-0 on in a Tomahawk Conference baseball game on Monday.
St. Mary’s was led by Jonny Petermann, who went 3 for 5 with a RBI, while Merrick Mathiowetz went 2 for 3 and Kameron Kosak went 1 for 3 with a double and two RBIs.
Mathiowetz also got the win in six innings, giving up no runs on no hits and two walks. He struck out eight.
St. Mary’s (12-3, 10-3) will travel to Madelia on Tuesday, while BLHS (0-11) will play Springfield in a double header on Tuesday.
GFW 7, Renville County West 1
RENVILLE — Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop beat Renville County West 7-1 on Monday in a nonconference baseball game.
GFW was led by Lincoln Werner, who went 3 for 4, while Dylan Bernstein went 2 for 4 with a double and Dominic Rose went 2 for 4.
Rose also got the win, going 5 2/3 innings and giving up one run on four hits and five walks. He also struck out seven.
GFW (5-11, 3-10) will go to Sibley East on Thursday.

GFW boys, River Valley Girls win at Sleepy Eye meet
SLEEPY EYE — The Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop boys and River Valley girls took home first place finishes in a track and field meet Monday at Sleepy Eye High School.
For the boys meet, GFW led with a 71, followed by River Valley (41), Central Minnesota Christian (33) and Minnesota Valley Lutheran/New Ulm Cathedral (12). On the girls side, River Valley scored a 71, followed by CMC (47.5), GFW (37) and MVL/NUC (27.5).
Justin Messner led the GFW boys, placing first in the 100 (11.79), 200 (23.85) and 400 (53.11), while Garrett Stegeman placed second in the 100 (11.96) and 200 (24.09). Garrett Schmidt placed first in the 110-meter hurdles (16.26), 300-meter hurdles (44.92) and long jump (19-3), and Easton Taylor placed first in triple jump (37-10) and second in the 110-meter hurdles (17.00). Alex Johnson placed first in shot put (49-0) and second in discus (142-2).
For the River Valley boys, Noah Christensen placed second in the 400 (54.39), while Raul Rodriguez placed first in the 800 (2:06.97). Matthew Groebner (4:45.11) and Dylan Dewitt (4:57.43) took the top two spots in the 1,600, while Levi Hagen (11:15.39) and Kevin Liu (12:16.30) did the same in the 3,200. The 4×400 relay team of Nolan Weicherding, Rodriguez, Christensen and Groebner placed first (3:54.02) as well as the 4×800 team of Rodriguez, Christensen, Dewitt and Groebner (9:26.42). Evan Thompson placed second in the shot put (43-1).
For the MVL/NUC boys, Tucker Kohls placed third in the 110-meter hurdles (18.95), while Emmanuel Edwards placed third in shot put (35-3).
Hailey Hollar led the River Valley girls, placing first in the 100 (13.00) and 200 (26.82) while Marissa Pabst won the 800 (2:33.71) and Olivia Milbrath won the 1,600 (5:59.34) and took second in high jump (4-6). Emma Hagen placed second in the 3,200 (14.06.84) and Millie Lax took second in the 300-meter hurdles (51.27). The 4×200 relay team of Yessenia Fernandez, Brynne Ibberson, Marley Hewitt and Lydia Dauer won (1:53.45) as well as the 4×400 relay team of Hollar, Dauer, Pabst and Ibberson (4:15.40) and 4×800 team of Lucy Schmidt, Katie Thram, Emmie McCone and Pabst (10.56.14). Dauer took first in pole vault (6-9) while Leah Kucera placed second in triple jump (30-5).
For the GFW girls, Kinley Bruns placed first in the 400 (1:03.18) and second in the 100 (13.57), while Kelly Willegal placed second in the 1,600 (6.26.19). Madyson Steele placed first in the 3,200 (12:54.41), while Annie Wersal placed first in discus (97-5) and second in shot put (29-2.5). Trinity Stearns placed first in high jump (4-6).
For the MVL/NUC girls, Emily Brown placed first in the 100-meter hurdles (50.55) and second in the 100-meter hurdles (17.15) and pole vault (6-9). Olivia Hammer placed second in long jump (13-9).
