MLC roundup: Knights volleyball wins 5-set thriller over Crown
WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL
MLC 3, Crown 2
ST. BONIFACIUS — The Martin Luther College volleyball team outlasted Crown in a five sets of Upper Midwest Athletic Conference volleyball, defeating the Polars 25-18, 23-25, 25-12, 16-25, 17-15 on Tuesday evening.
Freshman Ella Walz had a career-high 29 assists to lead MLC, while Paige Biesterfeld and Lauren Paulsen each had a team-high 15 kills. Grace Kieselhorst, hot off of being named UMAC Volleyball Player of the Week, had 13 kills, 23 assists, and 23 digs. Naomi Bridgemen had a career-high 29 digs, while Paulsen had 19 digs.
MLC is at Minnesota Morris on Friday.
WOMEN’S SOCCER
MLC 2, UMM 0
MORRIS — The Martin Luther College women’s soccer team shut out the University of Minnesota Morris 2-0 on Tuesday in an Upper Midwest Athletic Conference women’s soccer game.
Hailey Rice scored first for the Knights on an assist from Jules Koehler to put the Knights up 1-0 in the 30th minute. The second goal came on an own goal in the 74th minute.
UMM outshot MLC 16-14 overall, but the Knights won the shots-on-goal battle 10-3.
Reba Schroeder picked up her fourth shutout of the season and had three saves.
The Knights (4-9-2, 3-6-2) will host UW-Superior on Saturday, October 21, with a 1 p.m. start time.
MEN’S SOCCER
MLC 0, UMM 0
MORRIS — The Martin Luther College men’s soccer team battled the University of Minnesota Morris to a 0-0 tie on Tuesday in a Upper Midwest Athletic Conference men’s soccer game.
UMM outshot MLC 11-10 overall and 7-2 in shots on goal.
MLC freshman goalie Zachary Pausma had seven saves.
MLC (3-12-1,1-9-1) hosts the UW-Superior Yellowjackets on Saturday in a 3:30 p.m. game in New Ulm.
