Area roundup: Cougars cap off regular season with sweep

MORGAN — Cedar Mountain swept Martin County West 25-22, 25-18, 25-17 in a nonconference volleyball match Tuesday.

Hailey Hollar led the Cougars with 11 kills and 11 digs, while Aubrey Steffl had nine kills and six digs. Kendra Erickson had 31 set assists, five kills and five digs, while Lauren Baringer had 16 digs.

Cedar Mountain (19-8) travels to Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart for its first match in the Section 2A volleyball playoffs on Monday.

Springfield 3,

MLA/Comfrey 1

SPRINGFIELD — Springfield defeated Mountain Lake Area/Comfrey 25-11, 27-25, 16-25, 25-20 in a nonconference volleyball match Tuesday.

Brooklyn Sturm led the Tigers with 12 kills, 16 set asssists and 11 digs, while Jasmine Peterson-Novotny had eight kills and eight digs. Emma Hauger had four kills, 14 digs and four aces, while Bree Rasmussen had 17 set assists, 11 digs and three kills.

Springfield (6-21) rematches with MLA/Comfrey at home on Monday in the first round of the Section 2A volleyball playoffs.

Cleveland 3, Wabasso 0

CLEVELAND — Cleveland swept Wabasso 25-23, 30-28, 25-18 in a nonconference volleyball match Tuesday.

Alivia Olson led the Rabbits with 10 kills, while Lyla Kittleson had eight kills and an ace. Audrey Johnson had 16 digs and an ace, while Avery Carlson had seven kills and a block. Sara Carlson added 34 set assists and 11 digs for Wabasso.

Wabasso finishes its regular season with a 15-9 record. The Section 3A playoffs begin Monday.

Edgerton 3, Madelia 0

MADELIA — Edgerton swept Madelia 25-9, 25-21, 25-23 in a nonconference volleyball match Tuesday.

Lauryn Grev led the Blackhawks with five kills and three digs, while Alexis Jacques had 10 digs and two set assists. Ashlynn Sweet had three kills, four blocks, three digs and an ace, while Ashley Sorenson had three kills, 11 set assists and five digs.

Madelia finishes its regular season with a 12-15 record and will host Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Martin Luther/Truman on Monday for its first game of the Section 2A volleyball playoffs.

GIRLS TENNIS

Prahl finishes 4th

ST. PETER — New Ulm girls tennis singles player Karlee Prahl ended her junior season of tennis with a fourth-place finish in the Section 2AA Girls Tennis Individual Tournament on Tuesday morning at Gustavus Adolphus College.

Prahl advanced from the South Subsection of the tournament last Thursday night.

In the semifinals, Prahl fell to Karina Elvestrom of Minnetonka 6-0, 6-0 to drop her to a third-place match with Annika Southworth of St. Peter. Southworth won the third-place match 6-2, 6-1.
