NEW ULM — The New Ulm Eagles swept Blue Earth Area on Tuesday night in a Big South Conference volleyball match, winning 25-20, 25-12, 25-22.
Afton Hulke led New Ulm with seven kills, while Kenzie Enter had 20 set assists and Erin Wise had three aces. Also for New Ulm, Gracie Linbo had 11 digs, while Alexa Barstad and Malorie Anderson had two blocks apiece.
New Ulm (9-4, 5-2) hosts Marshall in a conference match on Thursday night.
Springfield 3, Sleepy Eye 1
SPRINGFIELD — Springfield pulled off a four-set upset win Tuesday over Sleepy Eye in a Tomahawk Conference volleyball match, winning 17-25, 25-21, 25-20, 25-19.
The win was the first conference win of the season for the Tigers, now 3-8 overall and 1-4 on the year.

Leading Springfield on Tuesday was Jasmine Peterson-Novotny, who had 10 kills and 17 digs, while Brooklyn Sturm had eight kills, seven digs, three blocks and four set assists. Also for Springfield, Teagan Steffl had seven kills, seven digs and two blocks, while Jalivia Richert had four kills, four blocks and seven digs and Bree Rasmussen had 20 set assists, eight digs and three aces.
For Sleepy Eye, Kadence Hesse had 12 kills, 15 digs, seven blocks and two aces, while Sam Price had 13 kills and five blocks. Also for the Indians, Brea Mertz had 12 kills and seven digs and Lydia Helget had 32 set assists and nine digs.
Sleepy Eye hosts Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s on Thursday in a conference match, while Springfield is at the Nicollet Invitational Saturday morning.
BLHS 3, Wabasso 0
WABASSO — Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart handed Wabasso its first conference loss of the season on Tuesday with a 25-18, 27-25, 25-15 win in Tomahawk Conference volleyball action.
Aliviai Olson had nine kills to lead Wabasso, while Avery Carlson and Camryn Irlbeck each had five kills and Natasha Doubler had four kills. Audrey Johnson had 16 digs for Wabasso, while Avery Carlson had 13 digs, Sara Carlson had 25 set assists and 12 digs and Doubler had 10 digs.
No stats were reported for BLHS.
Wabasso (12-6, 5-1) hosts Minnesota Valley Lutheran on Thursday, while BLHS (19-3-1, 5-0) hosts Cedar Mountain on Thursday.
Cedar Mountain 3, GFW 1
WINTHROP — Cedar Mountain earned a 25-23, 25-19, 23-25, 25-20 win over Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop on Tuesday night in a Tomahawk Conference volleyball match.
Hailey Hollar led the Cougars with 20 kills, while Reagyn Kleinschmidt had eight kills, Aubrey Steffl had eight kills and 24 digs and Kendra Erickson had five kills, 39 set assists and 13 digs. Cloey Wildt added five kills for Cedar Mountain, while Kenley Schiller had four kills, Lauren Baringer had 23 digs and Kylie Koerner had 18 digs.
For GFW, Taylor Schafer had 20 kills and 17 digs, while Marti Jacobson had nine kills and two blocks and Trinity Spears had seven kills. Also for the Cougars, Cheyenne Schmidt had 21 digs and Katelyn Beranek and Natalie Ahlbrecht each had 21 set assists.
Cedar Mountain (10-4, 4-1) hosts BLHS on Thursday, while GFW (5-8, 1-5) is at New Ulm Cathedral on Thursday night.
LCWM 3, Madelia 2
LAKE CRYSTAL — Madelia came up just shy of securing a comeback win on Tuesday night against Lake Crystal Wellcome Memorial as LCWM held on for an 11-25, 25-15, 25-15, 21-25, 15-13 win in Valley Conference volleyball action.
Ashlynn Sweet led Madelia with 15 kills, six digs and three blocks, while Ashley Sorenson had seven kills, 19 set assists, 15 digs and three aces. Corban Tatro added 25 digs, two kills and four aces for Madelia, while Jada Taylor had 19 digs, Alexis Jacques had four kills and nine digs and Katherine Devlaeminck had two blocks and two kills.
Madelia (6-11, 0-4) travels to St. Clair for another conference matchup on Thursday.
BOYS SOCCER
New Ulm 6, St. Peter 3
ST. PETER — New Ulm took down St. Peter 6-3 on Tuesday night in a Big South Conference boys soccer game.
Dominick Kamrath had two goals and two assists for New Ulm, while Jensen Gerdts, Junior Amoah, Brennan Shaver and Maverick Johnson all scored a goal. Daniel Brownfield, Jackson Ocampo and Austin Krohn each had an assist for the Eagles.
Ethan Goff had eight saves in net for New Ulm.
New Ulm is at Mankato East for a 5 p.m. game on Thursday.
PREP CROSS-COUNTRY
SM/SE/NUC teams each take 5th in St. James
ST. JAMES — The Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s/Sleepy Eye/New Ulm Cathedral cross-country team competed at the St. James Atea Cross-Country Invitational on Tuesday, with the boys and girls teams taking fifth.
The SM/SE/NUC boys were led by Noah Christensen’s seventh-place finish (18:18:46), while Levi Hagen took 16th with a time of 19:07.25.
The girls team was led by Emma Hagen, who took 11th with a personal-best time of 23:47.09, while Millie Lax took 15th with a time of 24:39.08.
The GFW girls also competed and won meet. GFW’s top girls runner Madyson Steele taking second (20:54.14) and its next best runner Kelly Willegal taking fifth (22:41.96). Kelby Bruns and Abigail Willegal also finished in the top 10 for GFW, taking sixth (22:57.54) and 10th (23:24.04), respectively.
