Brewers blank Leavenworth in exhibition game
NEW ULM — Mitch Bockenstedt threw five innings of two-hit ball and struck out nine Sunday afternoon as the New Ulm Brewers blanked Leavenworth 3-0 in an amateur baseball exhibition game at Johnson Park.
Adam Nilson tossed three innings and struck out four, while Sam Keckeisen pitched the final inning for New Ulm and got the save.
Dylan Hillesheim took the loss for the Orioles.
Colton Schaefer and Dalton Deinhart each had two hits for the Brewers with J.T. Hoffmann adding two hits.
The Brewers, who open Tomahawk East League play Sunday at 5 p.m. in Hanska, took a 1-0 lead in the third on singles from Schaefer, Hoffmann and Trevor Nissen and a wild pitch.
New Ulm added a solo run in the fifth on a walk, a groundout and an error before closing out the scoring in the bottom of the eighth on singles from Jace Schaefer, Deinhart and a Colton Schaefer sacrifice fly.
The Brewers outhit the Orioles 12-3 in the game.
