Minnesota Loons take down Steel in shootout

BREEZY POINT — The Minnesota Loons defeated the New Ulm Steel 4-3 in a shootout Friday night in an NA3HL game.

The Loons were on the board first with a power-play goal late in the first period by Dmitri Kuleshov and extended their lead to 2-0 after a goal by Willem Kerr 2:07 into the second period. Josh Gulden’s power-play goal put the Steel on the board 7:53 into the second period before Jamison St. Clair scored late in the second to give the Loons a 3-1 lead heading into the final period.

Connor Souza scored his third goal of the season on the power play for the Steel 6:32 into the third period before scoring his fourth goal of the year 12:59 into the third to tie the game.

After a scoreless overtime period, Kerr’s shootout goal was enough to lift the Loons to a win.

Steel goalie Nolan Lacosse stopped 43 shots in the loss.

The Steel play the Loons again at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in Breezy Point.
