Nissen, Brewers power past Lakers 12-5

NEW ULM — The New Ulm Brewers’ Trevor Nissen hit solo home runs in his first two at-bats as the Brewers improved to 12-0 in the Tomahawk East League with a 12-5 win over Hanska Wednesday night at Johnson Park.
Wade French got the win for the Brewers, going six innings and allowing four runs on seven hits while striking out four.
Aaron Portner took the loss for the Lakers, now 6-7 in TEL play. He went 4 2/3 innings and was charged with seven runs.
J.T. Hoffmann led the Brewers with three hits, with Nissen, Jaden Domeier and Braden Zimmerman each collecting two hits.
The Brewers took a 1-0 lead on the Lakers in the first when Hoffmann tripled and scored on a Hunter Ranweiler groundout.
Nissen’s first home run of the game came in the second inning when he blasted a Portner offering an estimated 400 feet over the fence in left-center.
Domeier followed with at triple to deep center and he would trot home on a Zimmerman single.
Hanska pushed two runs across in the fourth on RBI singles from Matt Suess and Logan Olson.
Nissen’s second home run of the game down the left-field line made it a 4-2 New Ulm lead.
The Brewers added three more in the fifth on just one hit.
The Lakers plated two runs in the sixth on an Ethan Mixdorf RBI triple and a Suess single.
New Ulm added four more runs in the bottom of the inning on just two hits before adding a run in the eighth.
Hanska scored a run in the ninth on a wild pitch.
