WINDOM — New Ulm shut out Windom Area 6-0 on Friday night in Big South Conference girls’ hockey action.

Afton Hulke and Brooke Arneson led New Ulm with two goals apiece, while Malorie Anderson and Maddie O’Connor each had a goal. O’Connor and Michelle Smith also each had three assists to lead New Ulm in assists.

Ava Brennan had five saves in two periods in net for New Ulm, while Brooke Gramentz played the third period and had four saves.

New Ulm (17-3, 10-0) is at Fairmont on Tuesday.

Girls’ Basketball

Nicollet 72, Springfield 45

SPRINGFIELD — Nicollet downed Springfield 72-45 on Friday in a nonconference girls’ basketball game.

Nicollet was led by Hayley Selby’s 33-point, 16-rebound double-double, while Marah Hulke also had a double-double with 11 points and 17 rebounds. Hulke also had six assists, while Josi Hansen scored 11 points.

Springfield was led by Megan Ploeger’s 15 points, while Madyson Digmann had 11 points and Tori Roiger had 8 points.

Nicollet (9-7) is at Cleveland on Monday night, while Springfield (5-10) hosts Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop on Tuesday.

Fairmont 45, New Ulm 38

FAIRMONT — Fairmont topped New Ulm 45-38 in a Big South Conference girls’ basketball.

Morgan Hulke led the Eagles with 11 points and two steals, while Brooklyn Lewis had 9 points, four rebounds and five steals. Kirsten Dennis added 7 points and two steals.

New Ulm (7-7, 2-4) hosts Blue Earth Area on Thursday.

GFW 63, Cedar Mt. 57

WINTHROP — Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop defeated Cedar Mountain 63-57 on Friday night in a Tomahawk Conference girls’ basketball game.

Brynn Busse led the Thunderbirds with 28 points and 10 rebounds, while Morgan Aylsworth added 14 points.

Cedar Mountain got 25 points from Megan Sandgren to lead the way, while Aubrey Steffl had 13 points.

GFW (8-8, 4-7) hosts Sibley East on Monday, while Cedar Mountain (4-12, 2-9) is at Immanuel Lutheran on Tuesday.

Boys’ Basketball

St. Mary’s 81, GFW 73

SLEEPY EYE — Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s held off Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop 81-73 on Friday night in a Tomahawk Conference boys’ basketball game.

The Knights were led by Carson Domeier’s 36 points, seven assists and six rebounds, while Kaleb Wait had 14 points and nine assists. Will Walter had 14 points and four rebounds also for St. Mary’s, while Trent Steffensmeier had 13 points and six rebounds.

Braylan Freitag had 24 points to lead GFW.

St. Mary’s (13-1, 9-0) takes on Windom Area on Saturday at Westbrook, while GFW (2-11, 1-8) is at Westbrook-Walnut Grove on Saturday.

Mayer Lutheran 65,

Sibley East 46

ARLINGTON — Mayer Lutheran defeated Sibley East 65-46 on Friday night in Minnesota River Conference boys’ basketball action.

Sibley East was led by Cole Bauer’s 11 points, while Zach Kettner added 10 points and Joe Ballalatak had 8.

Sibley East (1-11, 0-4) is at Belle Plaine on Tuesday.

Prep Wrestling

SJA 60, M/T/ML 18

SLAYTON — St. James Area defeated Madelia/Truman/Martin Luther in a prep wrestling dual on Thursday.

For the Jayhawks, Logan Slater earned a win at 170 by pin in 59 seconds, while Carlos Flores-Lemus earned a pin at 120 in 2:33.
