Cathedral boys run past CM

NEW ULM — Sam Knowles led New Ulm Cathedral 66-51 over Cedar Mountain on Thursday in Tomahawk Conference boys’ basketball action. It was the eighth consecutive win for the Greyhounds.

Knowles finished the game with 23 points, 23 rebounds, four assists and one steal. Jevan Wilfahrt added 13 points, seven rebounds, two steals and two blocks.

Knowles broke the school record for career rebounds, when he grabbed his 740th rebound with 3:45 remaining in the first half.

Cathedral lost to the Cougars the first time that the two teams met this season. With Knowles in the lineup, the Greyhounds are now 9-2.

“The kids played well together,” Cathedral head coach Alan Woitas said. “It was a good defensive effort by everyone.”

The Greyhounds periodically used a press during the first half which resulted in slowing down the Cougar offense. Occasionally, it would lead to a turnover and a basket for Cathedral.

Cathedral put together mini-runs for a 33-19 halftime lead.

Dakota Pendleton Sam’s 3 brought Cedar Mountain with 12 points at 46-34. Isaac Miller answered for the Greyhounds on the next play.

Nick Freitag led the Cougars with 19 points. Maxwell Pendleton scored 16 points .

Cathedral (9-6, 6-3) will play at Mountain Lake/Comfrey on Saturday. Cedar Mountain (6-7, 5-4) will host Heron Lake-Okabena on Tuesday.
