Area roundup: Worthington ends New Ulm’s season

Worthington 9, New Ulm 1

WORTHINGTON — Worthington downed New Ulm 9-1 on Thursday in Section 2AA playoff boys’ soccer action.

Christian Edwards scored New Ulm’s lone goal, while Ethan Goff had 15 saves. New Ulm had 10 shots in the game.

New Ulm ends its season with a 10-8 record.

Adrian Area 34, Cathedral 20

ADRIAN — Adrian Area defeated New Ulm Cathedral 34-20 on Thursday night in Southwest District football action.

Sam Knowles led the Greyhounds with eight carries for 58 yards and a pair of TDs, while Levi Franta had 11 carries for 63 yards. Eric Furth also added 46 rushing yards on 16 carries while being in on 18 tackles. Knowles was also in on 10 tackles and Logan Mielke recovered a fumble.

Cathedral (3-4) hosts Wabasso on Wednesday.

Prep Volleyball

Sibley East 3, LSH 2

ARLINGTON — Sibley East defeated Le Sueur-Henderson 25-10, 21-25, 25-16, 21-25, 15-10 on Thursday in a Minnesota River Conference volleyball match.

Molly Krentz had 15 kills, 11 digs and six aces for the Wolverines, while Jennifer Wolter had 12 kills and 18 digs. Adeline Williams had 23 set assists and 10 digs also for Sibley East, while Jessica Wolter had six kills and two blocks, Eleanor Kreft had 12 set assists, Katrina Diaz had nine digs and Morgan Halquist had five aces, five kills and 19 digs.

Sibley East (14-7, 2-3) is at the Bloomington Jefferson Tournament on Saturday, taking on Spring Lake Park in the opening round.
