Area roundup: Knights stay unbeaten with win over Springfield

St. Mary’s 75, Springfield 53

SPRINGFIELD — Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s remained unbeaten on the season after Thursday night’s 75-53 win over Springfield in Tomahawk Conference girls’ basketball action.

The Knights (11-0, 10-0) were led by Madison Mathiowetz’s 34 points, while Sydney Windschitl added 22 points.

The Tigers (6-4, 5-4) were led by Megan Ploeger’s 16 points and three rebounds, while Maddy Digmann added 11 points and Brooklyn Sturm added 10 points.

Springfield is at Sleepy Eye on Tuesday, while St. Mary’s is at Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop on Tuesday.

Nicollet/Loyola 69, Madelia 20

MADELIA — Nicollet/Loyola raced past Madelia 69-20 on Thursday night in a Valley Conference girls’ basketball game.

The Raiders (6-5, 5-4) were led by Josi Hansen’s 14 points and six steals, while Brooklyn Bode added 10 points. Marah Hulke also had 7 points, seven assists and five steals for the Raiders, while Hatti Hansen added 7 points.

Madelia was led by Danika Eisenmenger’s 7 points, while Victoria Hemmingsen chipped in 4.

Madelia hosts Alden-Conger on Tuesday, while Nicollet travels to Granada on Tuesday.

BOLD 65, Sleepy Eye 57

OLIVIA — BOLD defeated Sleepy Eye 65-57 on Thursday night in nonconference girls’ basketball action.

The Indians were led by Kadence Hesse’s 21 points, seven rebounds and six steals. Brea Mertz added 14 points and 10 rebounds for the Indians, while Kaydince Thoms had 12 points.

Sleepy Eye (5-5, 4-4) hosts Springfield on Tuesday.

Boys’ Basketball

Cathedral 59, BLHS 50

HECTOR — New Ulm Cathedral downed Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart 59-50 on Thursday night in Tomahawk Conference boys’ basketball action.

The Greyhounds were led by Sam Knowles’ 24 points, 15 rebounds, six assists and four blocks, while Jevan Wilfahrt had 13 points, nine rebounds and three steals. David Wilfahrt added 10 points and four rebounds for Cathedral.

BLHS was led by Jaxon Watkins’ 16 points, while Ashten Bergstrom had 12 points and Connor McColley added 11.

Prep Wrestling

St. Peter 54 , NUA 24

NUA 72, SJA 0

ST. PETER — New Ulm Area went 1-1 at a St. Peter prep wrestling triangular on Thursday night, falling to St. Peter 54-24 and shutting out St. James Area 72-0.

Parker Kamm, Logan Lee, Cole Ranweiler and Jaden Drill all went 2-0 on the night for the Eagles.

NUA is at a Mankato West triangular on Saturday.
