PIPESTONE — New Ulm Area went 2-0 on Tuesday in prep wrestling action, defeating Redwood Valley and Pipestone Area.

Marqavion Haefner, Ryan Wiltscheck, Cole Ranweiler, Dylen Carreon and Jaden Drill picked up a pair of wins for New Ulm.

The Eagles resume action on Friday when they host a triangular.

BLUE EARTH — New Ulm defeated Blue Earth Area 130.3-124.175 in Big South Conference gymnastics action on Tuesday.

For New Ulm, Olivia Eckstein took first on vault (8.75) and Emma Radloff was third (8.4). Madison Miller took first on bars (7.9) and Josie Sellners was second (7.85). Olivia Eckstein was first on beam (8.825) and Madison Miller was second (8.8). Eckstein was second on floor (8.7) and Emma Radloff was third (8.575). In all-around, Eckstein took first (33.25) and Miller was second (33.125).

Boys’ basketball

CM 65, BOLD 63

MORGAN — Cedar Mountain defeated BOLD in a nonconference boys’ basketball game on Tuesday.

For Cedar Mountain, Caden Kleinschmidt had 29 pints and 15 rebounds. Cade Schiller had 12 points and four rebounds.

Cedar Mountain (2-2) hosts Sleepy Eye on Thursday.

Girls’ basketball

BLHS 73, SE 40

HECTOR — Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart crushed Sleepy Eye in a Tomahawk Conference girls’ basketball game on Tuesday.

Brea Mertz led the Indians with 20 points and seven rebounds.

Allison Milbrandt scored 22 points to lead BLHS.

Sleepy Eye hosts Cedar Mountain on Friday.

Men’s basketball

MINNEAPOLIS — The Martin Luther College men’s basketball team opened the season with a buzzer-beating defeat at North Central by the score of 93-92 in non-conference action.

The Knights battled back from a big early deficit to take its first lead of the game with 1:38 to play in the game, and held a four-point lead in the final seconds. NCU able to cut the deficit to two points with two seconds remaining, and then won the game on a three-pointer at the buzzer by Barnabas Preble after a stolen inbounds pass.

NCU jumped out to a 12-2 lead and led by as many as 18 points before the Knights cut the deficit to 47-40 with a 21-10 run to close the first half.

Joseph Hirsch made all six of his shots (including all four three-pointers) to tie Jack Heichelbech for the team lead with 16 points. Micah Kieselhorst added 14 points, while Blumer finished with 13 in his collegiate debut.
