Eagle gymnasts knock off MCA

SHERBURN — New Ulm defeated Martin County Area 133.15-132.025 in a Big South Conference gymnastics meet on Friday.

New Ulm’s Kayla Goblirsch was second in the all-around with a 33.7. Ella Freiderich was fourth overall with a 33.325.

Friederich was second on the floor with an 8.95 and first in the bars (8.05). Goblirsch was second in the vault with a 9.4.

Girls’ basketball

New Ulm 52, BEA 44

BLUE EARTH — New Ulm’s Daviney Dreckman scored 11 points and grabbed seven rebounds as the Eagles improved to 2-1 on the season with a South Central Conference win over Blue Earth Area.

Bryn Nesvold finished with 9 points and five rebounds and eighth-grader Ramsey Hopp scored 11 points and grabbed four rebounds off the bench.

New Ulm hosts Worthington on Tuesday.

MVL 67, Wabasso 41

WABASSO — Minnesota Valley Lutheran outscored Wabasso 41-19 in the second half and cruised to a lopsided Tomahawk Conference girls’ basketball win on Friday.

Sarah Franta led the Rabbits with 11 points. MVL did not provide any statistics.

MVL is at Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s on Tuesday.

Springfield 47, Sleepy Eye 44, OT

SPRINGFIELD — Springfield’s Maddy Digmann scored 14 points and had three steals as the Tigers defeated Sleepy Eye in overtime in a Tomahawk Conference girls’ basketball game on Friday.

Brooklyn Sturm scored 9 points, had five steals and four rebounds for the Tigers and Courtney Wendt had 7 points, four rebounds and three steals.

Kaydince Thoms had 16 points for the Indians and Miah Brown had 10 points.

Springfield is at Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop on Tuesday and Sleepy Eye hosts Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart on Tuesday.

MCW 69, Madelia 19

MADELIA — Martin County West defeated Madelia in a Valley Conference girls’ basketball game on Friday.

For MCW, Kari Matejka and Emily Dunlop each scored 16 poins. Addie Ahern led Madelia with 9 points.

Madelia (0-3, 01) is at St. Clair on Monday.

Boys’ basketball

St. Mary’s 66, GFW 50

WINTHROP — Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s Carson Domeier scored 31 points and surpassed 1,000 for his career as the Knights defeated Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop in a Tomahawk Conference boys’ basketball game.

Trent Steffensmeier finished with 15 points for the Knights. Johnnie Ambrose led GFW with 18 points and Dominich Henrichs had 17 points for the Thunderbirds.

GFW is at Springfield on Monday and St. Mary’s is at Minnesota Valley Lutheran on Tuesday.
