HBC shuts out St. Mary’s

SLEEPY EYE — Hills-Beaver Creek shut out Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s 36-0 on Friday in a 9-man South District football contest.

Tyson Bork broke around the left side of the field and he ran 47-yards for HBC’s score with 6:22 left in the first quarter. Gavin Wysong went up the middle for the two-point conversion for an 8-0 Patriot lead.

In the second quarter, Wysong scrambled on a broken pass play for a 9-yard gain. Wysong handed the ball off to Bork who got the first down. Wysong ran up the the sidelines for a 5-yard touchdown with 10:00 remaining in the first half. Wysong tried to go up the middle for the two-point conversion, but the Knight defense stopped him, making it 14-0 HBC.

Wysong scored another Patriot touchdown on a 26-yard run. He ran past the Knight defense and down the sidelines for the score. Wysong tried to run the ball in for a 2-point conversion, but he was unable to do so, making it 20-0 HBC at halftime.

HBC took the second half kick-off and it put together an 80-yard drive. Wysong capped it off with a 5-yard touchdown run with 9:18 left. Wysong threw the ball to Cole Baker for the two-point conversion and a 28-0 Patriot advantage.

HBC’s defense stopped the Knights on a fourth down and one play. HBC took possession on its 28-yard line.

The end result of that was Tysong handing off the ball to Bork who ran 25-yards for a touchdown with 1:37 left in the game. Oliver Deelstra pitched the ball to Wysong who scored the two-point conversion for the 36-0 final.

St. Mary’s will travel to Danube to face Renville County West on Friday.
