Fairmont shuts out New Ulm girls 4-0

NEW ULM — Fairmont shut out New Ulm 4-0 on Tuesday in a Big South Conference girls’ soccer match.

The Cardinals scored first when Rayah Quiring scored at 32:28 of the first half. Bailey Martinson got the assist.

Maddie Maakestad’s goal with 6:12 remaining in the first half gave Fairmont a 2-0 halftime advantage. Martinson assisted Maakestad.

Both teams had chances to score. A comination of good goalkeeping and defense kept the game close.

At 37:05 of the second half Quiring scored again for the Cardinals with an assist by Carissa Saxton.

A scramble in front of the net resulted in the Cardinal’s final goal. Martinson scored and Quiring had the assist.

Fairmont had 19 shots on goal.

New Ulm will host Mankato Loyola on Friday.
