HANSKA — Down to their last five outs and trailing 2-0, the New Ulm Brewers weren’t quite ready to give up just yet.

The Brewers managed to tie the game in the top of the eighth, then got back-to-back home runs from Judd Davis and J.T. Hoffmann to secure a trip to the Class C state tournament. The Brewers defeated Hanska 5-2 in the Region 2C playoffs, sending the Lakers (10-2) to the elimination bracket. The Lakers still have a chance to earn the No. 3 seed from the region.

Wade French earned the win for New Ulm. He went eight innings, allowed five hits and two runs. He struck out five. Mitch Bockenstedt pitched the ninth inning to earn the save, giving up a leadoff single to Kevin Larson before striking out the next three batters.

Brady Mosenden allowed five runs and nine hits in the loss. He went eight innings and struck out 10.

The Brewers tied the game in the eighth inning after Brody Peterson drilled a two-out, pinch-hit single that scored Andrew Peters and Sam Berg. Hanska got a single run in both the first and fourth innings.

Then, in the ninth, Josh Seidl led off with a single and Judd Davis followed with a two-run home run that made it 4-2. Hoffmann then sent another Mosenden offering over the fence for the 5-2 lead.
