NEW ULM — New Ulm VFW Silver defeated New Ulm VFW Gold 7-1 on Saturday.

A single by Austin Enter, a hit batsman and a walk led to two Silver runs in the top of the first.

VFW Gold’s Maddox Mortensen led off the bottom of the first with a single, stole second, and advanced to third on Brodie Bushard’s fielder’s choice. He later scored on a passed ball to make it 2-1.

Silver picked up another run in the second when Brett Menk singled, stole second and was brought home on an Enter double.

Blake Soukup led off the third with a single and Anton Friedrich reached via error. After Carter Haala walked to load the bases, Grant Bruns singled to knock in Silvers fourth run. Friedrich then tagged up on a pop out to shortstop Carter Lang and a pair of Gold errors led to two more Silver runs, making the score 7-1.

After allowing a hit and a run in the first inning, Silver’s Blake Soukup blanked Gold for the final six innings. He allowed only three hits while striking out six. He threw 98 pitches in a complete-game victory.
