Sydney Hauger

Sr., Springfield, G

• Hauger made Springfield girls’ basketball history last Monday when she scored her 2,000th career point in a 64-43 victory against Wabasso. Hauger became the first girls’ basketball player in Springfield history to surpass 2,000 career points. She needed 34 points against the Rabbits and she scored exactly that many. She also had 11 steals and seven rebounds. She’s averaging 23 points and six rebounds per game this year and has 2,048 points in her career as of Monday, Feb. 10.

• Hauger scored 28 points in Springfield’s 72-49 victory over Westbrook/Walnut Grove on Tuesday night. She had another big night on Friday as she scored 20 points, had eight rebounds, five assists and two steals to help the Tigers top Sleepy Eye 65-51.

“Accomplishments like this are extra special when you see hard work pay off for a player,” Springfield coach Dillon Schultz said. “Basketball is a sport that you normally get out what you put in. And Sydney has put in the hours and to see her reach this milestone last week made me very proud of her as a coach to see her hard work rewarded.”
