North Iowa scores 4 unanswered, downs Steel

MASON CITY, IA — The North Iowa Bulls scored four unanswered goals on Friday night to take down the New Ulm Steel 6-3 in NA3HL action at the North Iowa Ice Arena.

The Steel held a 3-2 lead 3:53 into the second period after a goal from Michael Savelkoul that was assisted on by Keegan Bauman and Jacob Halvorson. The lead didn’t last long, however, as the Bulls tied it up at 3-all less than two minutes later on a goal by Matt Dahlseide.

The Bulls then took the lead back on a late power-play goal by Justin Daly with less than two minutes to go in the second period. Carter Wagner tacked on a pair of goals in the third period for the Bulls to lead to the final score.

Earlier in the game, Halvorson scored his 10th goal of the season on the Steel’s first goal 7:41 into the first period on an assist from Ted Lillico. With the Steel down 2-1 after one, Bauman tied things at 2-all a minute into the second period with his 10th goal of the season. That goal was assisted on by Parker Dorn.

AJ Cohen took the loss in net for the Steel, stopping 21 of 27 North Iowa shots.

The Steel host North Iowa at 7:10 p.m. Saturday night at the New Ulm Civic Center.
