Cathedral volleyball team finishes second at St. James tournament

Cathedral goes 4-1 at St. James tourney

ST. JAMES — New Ulm Cathedral went 4-1 at the St. James tournament, defeating Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart, Worthington, Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton and LeSueur-Henderson before falling to Redwood Valley in the finals.

For Cathedral, Emily Schommer finished the day with 82 set assists and Maggie Fliszar had 20 kills and 31 digs. Megan Haala had seven ace serves and 25 kills and Sarah Mohr finished with 29 kills and five block kills.

Sierra Wilson had 25 digs and Sydnee Helget finished the day with 17 kills.

Madelia goes 0-5 at St. James tourney

ST. JAMES — The Madelia volleyball team went 0-5 on Saturday at the St. James tournament.

Brooke Lensing had 26 kills on the day and Lillian Maul finished with seven kills. Dora Facundo had 25 digs and Emily Stevenson had 44 set assists.

BLHS takes 5th at St. James

ST. JAMES — Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart finished fifth at the St. James tournament on Saturday.

Allison Dornseif finished with 75 set assists and Katie Buboltz had 53 digs. Sara Kottke delivered 44 kills and Marissa Ebbers had 27 digs. Jessica Novotny finished with 25 digs.

Nicollet competes at

Sibley East tournament

GAYLORD — Nicollet went 0-3-1 at the Sibley East tournament on Saturday.

Jill Thompson finished with 44 kills and 37 digs. Ruby Hoffman had 32 digs and Jackie Thompson finished with 24 set assists. Marah Hulke distributed 23 set assists.

Boys’ soccer

Mound Westonka 2,

New Ulm 1

NEW ULM — Mound Westonka scored the first two goals of the game and held on to defeat New Ulm 2-1 in a nonconference boys’ soccer match on Saturday at New Ulm High School.

Andrew Dake scored New Ulm’s only goal on a free kick with 13:02 left in the game. Josh Rakoczy had eight saves for the Eagles.

New Ulm (5-6) has three straight home games this week. It hosts Waseca at 6:45 p.m. on Monday, St. Peter on Tuesday and Marshall on Thursday.
