TRUMAN — The Sleepy Eye volleyball team opened the regular season with a 25-21, 25-16, 27-25 noncoference victory over Martin Luther-Granada-Huntley-East Chain-Truman on Thursday.

Brittney Dittbenner led the Indians with 23 kills and 11 digs and teammate Alexa Steffl added six kills and two ace serves.

Sandy Flores finished with 23 set assists and 16 digs.

The Indians are 1-0 overall and play Tuesday at Mankato Loyola.

MLA 3, St. Mary’s 1

MOUNTAIN LAKE — Mountain Lake Area defeated Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s 29-31, 25-19, 25-13, 25-21 in a nonconference volleyball game on Thursday.

Madison Mathiowetz had eight set assists, 10 digs, two blocks, and nine kills for St. Mary’s. Sydney Windschitl had six kills and four digs for the Knights (0-1).
