Lakers throttle, upset Brewers in 2C playoffs

HANSKA — In what was a much-needed win for the Hanska Lakers in Region 2C amateur baseball playoff action on Wednesday night, Hanska dominated and knocked off the New Ulm Brewers 11-1 in seven innings.

Coming into the matchup with New Ulm, previously unbeaten in 2C play, Hanska needed to win in a big way and did just that. Zach Fischer and Matt Suess each had a three-run homer for Hanska, with Suess’s homer leading to the 11-1 final and early finish.

Jon Ahern hit a solo home run for the Brewers’ lone run. Adam Slander took the loss for New Ulm on the mound.

New Ulm, 3-1 in 2C play, next hosts Springfield on Friday night, while Hanska, 1-3 in 2C play, is at Springfield for a 1 p.m. game Saturday as Region 2C playoff action continues.
