Sleepy Eye falls to BLHS in Section 2A playoffs

HECTOR — Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart defeated Sleepy Eye 9-2 on Thursday in a Section 2A playoff baseball game.

The winning pitcher was Dylan Maiers, who pitched the whole game with 10 strikeouts and allowing four hits, two runs and two walks.

Matthew Sellner took the loss for Sleepy Eye with seven strikeouts and giving up 11 hits, nine runs and four walks.

BLHS was led in hitting by Elijah Stifter, who went 3 for 4 with one double and three RBIs and Kaden Zanoth, who went 2 for 3 with two RBIs.

Sleepy Eye’s Kadon Strong and Matthew Sellner each went 1 for 2 with one RBI.

Prep golf

NORTH MANKATO — New Ulm Cathedral’s Logan Haala (80) and Ethan Kirchberg (81), Martin County West’s Dawson Weber (84) Cedar Mountain’s Aiden Nelsen (87), MCW’s Hunter Schmidt (88), CM’s Ethan Bock (89), Alden-Conger’s Ryan Hansen (89), MCW’s Mitchell Weber (89) and Logan Thell of Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton (89) all advanced in the Section 2A boys’ golf meet on Thursday.

Sleepy Eye United (316), Springfield (319), Madelia (335) and United South Central (336) all advanced in the team event.

Madelia’s Carson Wihlm led the way with a 74 and Springfield’s Mason Kretsch shot a 75. Springfield’s Mavrick Winkelmann shot a 78 and SEU’s Toby Weiss shot a 78. SEU’s Logan Netzke and Andrew Neid each shot a 79 and Springfield’s Christopher Thram, and SEU’s Thor Weiss each shot an 80.

The meet will conclude on Monday at North Links.
