Indians crush Jaguars 12-2 in 5

SLLEPY EYE — Sleepy Eye Indians defeated Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Martin Luther 12-2 in a nonconference baseball game in Sleepy Eye Thursday night.

Sleepy Eye pitcher Matthew Sellner got into some early trouble with the bases loaded in the top of the first, but he pitched out of the jam with a strikeout and a fly-ball out.

Sleepy Eye loaded the bases in the bottom half of the first with Nathan Walter scoring the run from third on a passed ball.

The Jaguars tied the game in their half of the second when a runner reached on a throwing error. The Indians were able to get the second out before a deep single drove the runner in.

The Indians did their damage in the third inning, scoring 10 runs from five hits in the inning. Keegan Heiderscheidt drove in the winning run with a two RBI single into left to put the Indians up 3-1. Landon Strong scored the Indians’ second run when he reached on an error and advanced on a passed ball.

Kadon Strong laid the bunt down trying to advance Landon Strong to third before Kadon reached when he beat out the throw. The Jaguars struggled in the field trying to keep the runner at second with the speedy Landon Strong moving the bases, taking too much time and forcing the play at first.

Sleepy Eye needed one more run in the fifth inning due to the Jaguars turning the score to 12-2 with a run in their half of the fifth. Allen Arneson came to the task with an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth during his first plate appearance of the night.

Sellner earened the win, pitching all five innings. He gave up six hits for the Indians.

Heiderscheidt led the Indians by going 1 for 2 with two RBIs including the go-ahead run. Jacob Berg went 2 for 3 with one RBI and reached on a walk and Landon Strong was 1 for 1 reaching on three errors in all four plate appearances.
