SLEEPY EYE — No. 2-seeded New Ulm Gold defeated No. 7-seeded Sleepy Eye 13-3 in eight innings in a first-round game of the Division I, Substate 2 Legion baseball tournament just before midnight Wednesday in Sleepy Eye.

The game was pushed back due to an afternoon rainstorm that required the Sleepy Eye groundscrew to remove almost 30 gallons of water from the field.

Tyler Roufs got the win on the mound for Gold (17-9), which scored eight runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to take a 12-3 lead.

Post 7 was unable to get anything going after that, as Post 132 scored another run in the eighth to end the game.

Kasey Kuck had five hits, while J.T. Hoffmann had four hits at the plate for New Ulm.

New Ulm will play No. 3-seeded Jordan at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday at Sleepy Eye ballpark.

Sleepy Eye will drop to the consolation bracket, where it will face No. 6-seeded Mankato American at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday at Stark Township.
