NEW ULM — For the second time in as many nights, the New Ulm gymnastics team picked up a Big South Conference victory, this time with a narrow 133.5-132.375 victory against Waseca.
The win means New Ulm clinched a spot to compete in the Big South Conference meet, which has a new style this year and allows the top two teams from both the East Division and the West Division.
“I think they were definitely a little bit tired after having the back-to-back meets,” Eagles’ coach Kortney Peterson said. “We were ahead on vault and bars and we fell behind a little bit on beam, the floor was our usual strong event.”
Sarah Longtin was New Ulm’s top competitor in all-around, finishing third overall with a 33.6. Ellie Hohensee was fourth (33.025) and Molly Klimek was fifth (32.875).
Longtin was second in floor (9.150) and second in vault (8.8). Hohensee was fourth in vault (8.75) and third in floor (8.925). Michelle Rosenhamer was fifth in floor (8.925) and fifth in vault (8.75) and Kaylee Hutchinson was fourth in beam (7.875) with Emma Gauert finishing fifth (7.75)
New Ulm competes at Fairmont on Friday.
