An email recently arrived from a lady named Paula Gorgey, who is a fan of my work. We corresponded a bit and I learned that Paula is 100 years old and had grown up in Hungary. Sensing a good story, I asked if she would consent to a phone interview. To the editor: Do you value life? Is the First Amendment right to speak and assemble cherished by those you know? Is the right to bear arms as stated in the Second Amendment important to you? The early 20th century baseball star Rogers Hornsby was asked what he did in the off season. “People ask me what I do in winter when there’s no baseball. I’ll tell you what I do. To the editor: U.S. Representative Finstad received an A+ on the Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America National Pro-Life Scorecard. Since Ms. Anthony is one of my heroes, I had to know more. This scorecard has one criteria - “pro-life” legislation. This organization claims Ms. Anthony as “the influential suffragette who also fiercely opposed abortion”. To the editor: I would like to send a heartfelt thank you to the group of New Ulm area Catholics that submitted a letter to the editor this week calling out the activities being committed by ICE in the state of Minnesota, as well as any other individuals that are willing to step up and write letters to the paper. Whatever anyone’s beliefs about the impact of immigrants in this country, I would think every decent person could come together and agree that breaking down doors without warrants and pulling U.S. citizens half clothed out of their homes in subzero temperatures is immoral ...

THUMBS UP Lilleoden receives Chamber Volunteer of the Year award Andy Lilleodden received the inaugural Chamber Volunteer of the Year award Monday. The award created this year is given to those who go above and beyond in their support of the New Ulm Area Chamber.
