To the editor: In his letter in the Jan. 30 Journal,“Do you now see the clear threat to democracy?”, Tom Kuster writes: “What can you do? Stay up-to-date with a variety of reliable news sources.” But his comments on Trump’s J6 pardons leave me wondering how much variety there is in his sources. Irresponsible with people’s lives

To the editor: Having had former employment experience with the federal government, I agree with the need for an in-depth look at expenditures, programs’ usefulness, etc. However, it seems extremely irresponsible to just shut down agencies and programs before any type of evaluation has been done. There are ramifications for employees, recipients and, probably, impacts as yet unknown. The present administration is being irresponsible with people’s lives; and, seems to just be looking for attention-grabbing headlines….Positive reform takes time. Deb Egeland New Ulm

To the editor: Had the current administration done a simple Google search, it would have revealed the truth about the job of air traffic controllers. There is a shortage. So, no, there are not displaced air traffic controllers in the unemployment lines as a result of DEI policies. Yet our knee-jerk administration is more than happy to roll out its boogey man of the moment to advance its political agenda. Does this sound familiar? Settle the matter in Legislature

To the editor: The current standoff in the Minnesota House of Representatives reminds me of days past when my sister and I were squabbling. Our mother didn’t care to get involved and just said to stop it. Both parties in the Legislature have their talking points which they repeat ad nauseam. Saying that the other party isn’t showing up for work doesn’t help to resolve the squabble. If my mother did care to get involved she’d want the other side of it and ask why. Understanding the US flag code

To the editor: I would like to clarify something that Paul Platz wrote about in one of his recent and frequent letters to the editor. It was Paul’s opinion that flags should not be flown at half-staff for a full month in honor of former President Jimmy Carter, because Paul thought President Carter did not do a very good job as our President.
