Second Amendment, upon further review

To the editor:

Whenever another mass shooting occurs, the sensible left renews its call for legislation to protect our citizens from gun violence by lunatics wielding weapons of mass destruction in pursuit of slaughtering innocent, unarmed, law-abiding people. Now I’m thinking that I need to avail myself of my Second Amendment right to bear arms for the actual reason that it became part of our Bill of Rights. Our forefathers in our country’s infancy thought it prudent to allow citizens to arm themselves in the face of an intrusive threat posed by a foreign invasion or government overreach, blending the need for national defense with the protection of individual liberty and self-defense.

Our country now faces the intrusive threat of a government looking capriciously to pick and choose who gets to be the beneficiaries of those unalienable rights. What if peaceful protesters carried weapons of mass destruction to protect themselves from ICE? Not a pretty picture, but everybody has access to the Second Amendment…right? (It would seem that these types of weapons could be more than mere props for a Christmas photo op.)

Obviously, such a confrontation between people on opposite sides of the political spectrum would be fraught with peril. But ICE certainly enjoys having the deck stacked in its favor in implementing its invasion into the lives of people who are nowhere close to being the “worst of the worst. Making matters worse is that these ICE agents appear to have superhuman flexibility, reach, and sharp-shooting skills to reach out from underneath a moving vehicle and fire deadly shots through the windshield and driver-side window. (The president said the shooter had been “run over.”) And Kristi Noem, chief ICE apologist, claimed the victim “had been stalking and impeding agents all day.” All day? This happened at 9:37 a.m. What time do these guys go to work? Serial…liars…lying.

In the aftermath of the shooting, the resident in what’s left of the White House also predictably called the victim “vicious.” Don’t forget about Epstein, Venezuela, Greenland, etc. Let’s not be distracted. The nefarious resume grows daily.
