Board focused on helping students succeed

To the editor:

I urge my fellow citizens to vote in the Nov. 8 election.

When voting for members of the New Ulm Board of Education, please vote for the three incumbent candidates: Steve Gag, Amanda Groebner (who is my daughter-in-law) and Melissa Sunderman.

New Ulm’s public schools are great places for the education of our children and grandchildren, thanks to the contributions of teachers, staff and administration, parents, School Board members and many others. Look at the high school built in 2016 with its up-to-date facilities for classroom learning, performing arts and athletics. And just a year ago, the new Career Technical Education Center opened to prepare students for careers in the mechanical and construction trades.

The School Board strives to provide programs in which students can excel in academics, sports and arts. The current board is also studying how to identify and understand disadvantages that get in the way of success for some students. How can New Ulm schools assist students who lack the emotional, physical, social, or economic resources to succeed?

The school district has invested in educating board members in these issues. The board members — dedicated as they are — have invested their own time and effort to learn how to support each student as much as possible.

By voting for the incumbents, you will support the board, our public schools and every student.

Please vote to re-elect Steve Gag, Amanda Groebner, and Melissa Sunderman.

Daniel T. Groebner
