Please return my rope

To the editor:

On Wednesday June 5th at about 12 noon I was working on a car back by my shop when someone driving a newer Chevy crew cab or extended cab light silver pickup with the chrome bars going down the sides of the box stopped to pick up tree branches he lost in the street.

The man, 1 would say, was in his 50s, told me his ropes and tie downs were in his trailer so I asked him if he needed to borrow a rope. He was very thankful and informed me he was just going to the compost site and he would be back in 10 minutes to return the rope.

Well guess what, I never saw or heard from him again. I know it was just an old brown woven rope that you can’t even buy anymore but it was one I got from my late father, so every time I grabbed it for a split second I thought of him.

I find it hard to believe that someone would actually steal from a person that goes out of his way to give them a helping hand. It gives me satisfaction to help out people in need, borrow out a jack or tire iron to change a flat, jump a dead battery, lend a gas can when someone runs out of gas, you name it; it seems to happen on this corner.

Maybe the guy just forgot to return it or figured he could just keep it but that’s not the case. So please, return my rope. Thanks.
