Oktoberfest is back
October is here and that means New Ulm is ready to celebrate Oktoberfest. For the first weekend, the fun will be centered around downtown New Ulm. As with last year, a green artificial turf will be placed on Minnesota Street. There will be an increase in food vendors downtown. The weather is also expected to cooperate with temperature predicting to be in the 80s.

Successful
house move
On Monday, the house at 320 N. Broadway was successfully moved to 1007 N. Minnesota Street. The moving process was an impressive site to see. It is not every day a community witnesses an entire house move into a new neighborhood. The actual moving of the house was done by Goldschmidt House Movers, and the process went smoothly. Cassie Cano and Dylan Schapekahm, the former renters of the home and now owners, wished to thank Goldschmidt for doing an amazing job. The Journal agrees. The moving company made a difficult job look relatively easy.

Political sign
theft returns
Political yard signs during election season is to be expected. Unfortunately theft or damage to political signs is just as predictable. Every election cycle The Journal reports on a wave of sign thefts and every year The Journal needs to remind the public it is illegal. This year is no different. There were several reports of sign thefts, impacting both political parties. It is honestly really depressing, not just how many people are willing to commit petty theft over an election, but how many people will go out of their way to silence free speech. Yes, political signs count as a from of free speech. Stealing or damaging signs is arguably a method of censorship. If that is not enough to dissuade the public stealing political signs, remember doorbell cameras are becoming really common these days. The odds getting caught are really strong.
