MLC graduation

The season of graduation is upon us, with Martin Luther College honoring its graduates seniors today, and sending them on to follow their futures. When Martin Luther College students come to New Ulm as freshmen, many of them are far from home and away from home for the first time. Over four years they become a part of the New Ulm community, and when they graduate they will be heading off to schools and church careers throughout the WELS system. We hope they will carry fond memories of their time in New Ulm with them. We wish them well.

Fishing opener

It looks like Saturday will be a rainy opening to the Minnesota fishing season. While that may make it a bit unpleasant for the anglers, rain seems to make fish bite a bit better. So it should be a productive weekend for the fishing opener. Good luck to all Minnesota anglers. We know that outdoor activities like fishing and hunting bring a lot of economic activity to the state. We appreciate it.

Mothers Day

Sunday is Mothers Day. We could quote endlessly from the poems and essays about the virtues of mothers and the essential role they play in all of our lives. There are flowery quotes and deeply emotional quotes. There are quotes so sweet they are worthy of a Hallmark card. One of our favorites is by that great writer, Anonymous, who said, “If at first you don’t succeed, try doing it the way mom told you to in the beginning.” Happy Mothers Day to all moms. May the love you receive today be overwhelming.
