To the editor:

In response to the letter writer who responded to my letter of June 4 (“Don’t blame all cops for Floyd’s death”):

I feel a person is racist if all they see are people’s color, ethnicity, sexual preferences, religions, disabilities, political preferences, etc. As I said before, my family and friends fit all of the aforementioned difference, but we see each other only as people we care about, which is different than news agencies having to see the black person, or gay person, or whatever.

As for police, the time I’ve had to call 911 for my husband’s medical emergencies, they’ve been there right away to help before medical personnel. Also this last winter while driving to pick up a grandchild from school I saw an older gentleman who had slipped on the ice lying unconscious on a corner downtown. At first I could not tell if he was dead or alive. I parked and called 911, being unable to get out of the car due to trouble walking. I saw people leaving the business we were near and nobody else came over to see what happened. Luckily, two young men stopped to help, and I told them I was on the phone with the 911 operator. I gave them a blanket from my car to cover the man while we waited. Shortly thereafter some police officers got there and I told them what transpired. Then an ambulance go there and took over. This all happened quickly and I made it to school on time to pick up my grandchild. I will say when I’ve been somewhere and needed help there’s always been someone near to assist me, and I ask God to bless that person for showing kindness.

I don’t normally hold prejudice or animosity toward anyone and TRY not to judge as if I’m wronged or disrespected by someone. I’ve seen the phrase “What goes around, comes around” is certainly true. We can’t see into someone else’s heart without knowing the person, you really can’t lump that person into a group as the letter writer is doing to me. Just remember, God is the true judge and will deal with this as He sees fit.
