NUACS News: Great start to NUACS school year

The school year at NUACS is off to an excellent start, with several new and exciting initiatives taking place. We continue to build on the newly established Robotics program at both St. Anthony Elementary and Cathedral High School. Sixty-four students in grades 4-6 are participating in the program, and CHS has both a VEX Robotics class and club again this year. We are excited about the high participation numbers in the Robotics Club and continue to plan for the growth of this program.

The St. Anthony Elementary School NewsHounds is a new club open to students in grades 4-6. This group broadcasts our daily announcements to all of the classrooms in the building. A new studio complete with a news set, green screen technology, teleprompter, and work space for the reporters and guest anchors has been added to the computer lab.

New mobile carts with Chromebooks have been added at both St. Anthony Elementary and Cathedral High School. Teachers have been training on Google Classroom and G-Suite features, and continue to integrate technology into the curriculum to enhance instruction and student learning. Our goal is to continue to add Chromebook sets at each grade level with an end goal of 1:1 technology for our students.

Cathedral High School continues to score above the state average on the ACT Test. Cathedral High School reports a composite ACT score of 24.7, over three points above the state average of 21.3. Scores in all areas were above the state average, with English at 27.3, math at 23.4, reading at 23.8, and science at 23.9.

I am grateful to our staff for sharing their creative skills and talents to meet the diverse needs of our students. I am proud of our students and their willingness to learn and challenge themselves each day. I am thankful for the parents and friends of NUACS for their ongoing support of our school and for making this educational experience possible for our students. There is a great cooperative spirit at NUACS, and I am honored to serve our school community
