Eagle Update: Building projects to continue

Eagle Update

The proper upkeep of our facilities for students and staff is important in order to have a safe and productive learning environment. Even though we recently concluded a very complex remodeling and building project, we have more projects to complete. We were not able to accomplish all of the remodeling plans we initially considered last year due to the volume of projects and the timeline to complete them. There are also ongoing preventative maintenance projects we need to complete.

This summer, we intend to complete remodeling projects in order to enhance the learning environment for our students. At Jefferson, we are replacing casework, countertops and sinks in most of the classrooms. At Washington, we are installing new ceilings and lights in all of the hallways. This is the last building in the district to undergo tuck-pointing and painting of the precast exterior walls. Making sure our buildings are watertight and structurally sound is a preventative cost saving measure. The Middle School will have windows added in the basement of the ’97 addition, hallway carpet replaced and a large section of roof over and around the gym replaced.

District-wide, we are replacing broken/raised concrete at three sites; replacing exterior security lights with LED fixtures; replacing the main campus parking lot lights with LED fixtures, and adding directional signage at all campus sites so visitors know where to park and enter our buildings. With the new roads and entrances, we need to provide proper signage.

Another project that will get finished is the replacement of the middle school gym floor. This floor was damaged last summer as a result of a water main coupler failing and dumping water throughout the basement of the middle school, including the gym floor. The floor buckled, warped and is not in very good condition. Once the new roof is over the gym, a company will come in to replace the wood floor. We anticipate this work being completed by August 1st.

There have been several rumors about the new high school track complex. The track, bleachers and field are just fine. All of the field event areas (discuss, shot, pole vault, long/triple jump) await finish grading and additional seeding. This is not a surprise as the initial fieldwork was completed in late fall. Like the baseball and softball fields, we didn’t plan on using them this year so they could have a complete growing season and establish a solid root system before we play on them.
