Thumbs Up/Down

Right the first time

Thumbs Down: Sen. Ted Cruz went groveling to Tucker Carlson Thursday, to apologize and seek forgiveness for describing what happened a year earlier as “a violent terrorist attack on the Capitol.”

On Carlson’s show, he apologized, and said, “The way I phrased things yesterday, it was sloppy and it was frankly dumb.”

No, Sen. Cruz, what you said was honest and accurate. Those who insist it was something else are the ones who should be apologizing.

Masking up

Sideways Thumb: Even as the Supreme Court held hearings Friday on whether President Joe Biden has the constitutional authority to order employers to force employees to get vaccinated and mask up against COVID-19, businesses and local units of government are working to comply with the administration’s policy. The county, local school boards and the New Ulm City Council are all adopting the necessary policies, and waiting to see how the Supreme Court rules on them.

The policies call for vaccinations, and masking and weekly tests for those who are not vaccinated.

Frankly, it is sad that the government needs to mandate what should be an easy, reasonable choice to protect one’s self and others.

First baby of 2022

We hope she will be the first of many happy, healthy babies to be born in New Ulm this year.
