Eagle Update: School year coming to a successful close

Congratulations to all of our area graduates. Graduation signifies the end of one journey and the start of another. We know that all students in the New Ulm area have great chances at success because of the opportunities they received while students in our communities.

Graduation ceremony for New Ulm High School is set for Friday, May 21st at 7:00 pm in the high school gymnasium. In following the Minnesota Department of Health requirements for indoor venues, there is limited seating for families. We will have livestreaming available for relatives and community members. Please visit our website for the livestream information.

The last day of classes for our remaining students is May 27th. In the next two weeks, our staff and students will work together to complete coursework, projects and assessments. There will be recognition events, celebration days and goodbyes mixed in these two weeks.

We have plenty to celebrate! We were able to hold in-person classes for all but five weeks of the school year and our staff and students were safe during this trying and challenging time in education.

When we end a school year, we say goodbye to staff and students. To our staff who are leaving or retiring, we say thank you for what you have done to inspire and challenge our students to be better. For students, the end of a school year signifies promotion to the next grade and maybe a move to a new building. For our custodial crew, the end of a school year signifies summer cleaning and summer building projects.

Each school year is unique and has its own challenges. This school year is in a class all by itself, one we don’t want to see a repeat of – ever. During this year, our staff were amazing, understanding, dedicated and passionate about serving all of our students while working in very different conditions. My thanks to our parents and community members for the great support of our schools and staff. You have been understanding and flexible with the many changes and modifications to the school calendar based on state requirements that continued to change. New Ulm is a great place to live and grow.
