Town Talk: Looking for opportunity to serve New Ulm?

Mayor Robert Beussman is interested in hearing from New Ulm citizens who wish to be considered for volunteer appointment to a variety of boards and commissions. The appointments are for the following board and commissions that assist the New Ulm City Council in conducting normal day-to-day city business: Cable Communication Advisory Board and Safety Commission.

The Cable Communication Advisory Board is a five-member board that meets the third Thursday; quarterly at 5:00 p.m. The Board advises the Council on its regulatory jurisdiction and monitors the performance of Franchisee in executing the provision of the franchise. It works with Franchisee and any organization created pursuant to this ordinance to operate community access cable casting to encourage the use of community access services and to explore the feasibility of new services.

The Safety Commission is a nine-member commission that meets the first Thursday of each month at 5:00 p.m. to study matters of traffic and safety. The Fire Chief, Chief of Police, City Engineer, Public Works Superintendent, Mayor and Brown County Sheriff serve as additional non-voting members.

Individuals with an interest in serving should contact Executive Assistant Lisa Pelzel at 507.359.8233 or HYPERLINK “mailto:lisap@newulmmn.gov” lisap@newulmmn.gov to be considered for appointment.

Editor’s Note: The City of New Ulm presents a weekly column highlighting activities in different departments in the city government. Once a month the city will answer questions from readers. Questions on New Ulm city issues can be sent to comments@ci.new-ulm.mn.us.
