Brown County Browser: Voting update

Filings for County Commissioner and Soil and Water Supervisors opened on Tuesday May 19th and will close on Tuesday, June 2nd at 5 p.m. To file, contact the Auditor-Treasurer at 507-233-6616 for an appointment or to discuss other options for completing the filing affidavits.

Brown County Election Administrators continue to find solutions during this current health crisis that will minimize exposure of voters and poll workers in the polling place. We have taken a proactive approach and continue to encourage voters to apply for absentee ballots. It should be noted, that Brown County will not be offering the direct balloting option in this pandemic year. The Auditor-Treasurer’s office does not have sufficient space to allow for social distancing as is currently required by the CDC. Voters will be asked to complete the absentee application and VOTE AT HOME. Secure drop boxes will be made available or ballots could be returned by mail.

Complete an absentee application today and ballots will be sent to your home as soon as they become available. Know that Minnesota has a tool on the Secretary of State’s website so that you can track your ballot to ensure that your vote has been counted.

In the past, voters could update their registration when updating their Driver’s License. Due to the pandemic, License Bureau’s have been closed and no driver’s licenses processed. You may want to consider going online to update your voter registration if you have moved or changed your name. Links may be found on the Brown County website.
