Brown County Browser: Heartland Express seeking volunteers

Are you newly retired, or have the kids left for college, and you are looking for something to do with your free time? How about becoming a volunteer driver for Brown County Heartland Express? We are in need of volunteer drivers in the Comfrey, Sleepy Eye, and Springfield area. As a volunteer driver you would assist getting people to appointments, either in or around Brown County or to appointments in other local communities. This may include Mankato, Redwood Falls, Madelia, or Windom. Volunteer drivers use their own vehicle, they are reimbursed the federal rate for their mileage and they are also reimbursed for parking or other expenses associated with the trip. You set your own schedule and let us know what day’s you would like to drive.

If you are concerned about your insurance rates, Minnesota Statute 290.05 makes you immune from civil liability as long as you are acting in good faith and within the scope of your volunteer responsibilities. Your insurance rates will NOT be increased just because you use your car as a volunteer driver. As in any situation you should check with your insurance representative.

As a volunteer driver you will find it very rewarding. You will be surprised with the people you meet and the joy it brings the passengers that you are helping.

If you would like more information about this program please call Brown County Heartland Express at 800-707-2717 and talk to Pat LaCourse or Nate Moldan.
