COMFREY–Arlene Margaret Helget, age 84, of Comfrey, MN, died on June 20, 2025, at St. John’s Lutheran Home.
Visitation will be on Sunday, June 29, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at St. Paul’s Catholic Church – Comfrey and will continue on Monday, June 30, 2025 from 10:00 AM until 11:00 a.m. at the church. The Rosary will be said Sunday beginning at 4:30 p.m. followed by prayer service beginning at 4:45 p.m.. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Paul’s Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m. on Monday. Interment will be at the St. Paul’s Catholic Cemetery in Comfrey. Arrangements are with the Sturm Funeral Home in Comfrey. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.sturmfh.com.
Arlene Margaret Flor was born on October 31, 1940 to Alfred and Loretta (Roiger) Flor in Springfield, MN. She attended and graduated from Springfield High School. On June 10, 1959, Arlene was united in marriage to Cyril Helget at St. Raphael’s Catholic Church in Springfield. They spent their married life living on the farm where they raised their four children. Arlene spent many years working at St. John’s Lutheran Home. Arlene loved dancing to polka music, card parties with friends, gardening and flowers, as well as embroidering and quilting. Throughout her lifetime, she was a member of various clubs and organizations including REA Board, an election judge, Floratennial Garden Club, Lions Club and was a member of the Gladiolus Society. Arlene was also very active in the church serving on the CCW, Christian Mother’s Society, eucharistic minister and a member of Catholic Aid. She was a member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church and her faith was an important part of her life. She was always willing to serve her community and anyone in need. Above all she was a proud mom, grandma and great grandma and loved her family and friends dearly. Arlene enjoyed attending the grandchildren’s many activities including plays and sporting events.
Arlene is survived by her children – Doug (Jackie) Helget of New Ulm, Steve “Davis” (Chris) Helget of Springfield, Tom (Wendy) Helget of Rochester; Barb (Jose) Nunez of Modesto, CA; 10 grandchildren – Derek, Collin (Sophie), Jenna, Kalley (Caleb), Tori, Alec (Lindsey), Alexis, Ashley, Adrianna, and Miguel; great granddaughter – Norah Jo; siblings – Jerry (Ronda) Flor of New Ulm, Bev Sinderman of St. Paul, Kathy (Joe) Altrichter of Cushing, sister-in-law Sue Flor of Springfield, Nancy (Dave) Beasley of Granite Falls as well as many in-laws and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister Florene Ortiz, brother Denny Flor, brother-in-law Vic Sinderman and baby daughter.
