NEW ULM–Donald L. Solberg, age 80, of New Ulm, died Sunday, September 29, 2024 at his home surrounded by his family.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. on Friday, October 4, 2024 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in New Ulm, with Pastor Kathleen Ulland-Klinkner officiating. Burial with full military honors accorded by the New Ulm Area Comrades of Valor Honor Guard will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Hanska.

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home-SOUTH Chapel in New Ulm. The visitation will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.

Donald is survived by his wife, Mary Jo; daughter, Jody (Marty) Harris of Texas; sons, Kirk (Diane) of North Branch, MN, Jason (Trisha) of McGregor, IA, and Kory of Gonvick, MN; grandchildren, Matthew Solberg, Nicholas (Karissa) Solberg, and Jacob Harris; sisters, Kathleen Ellanson of New Ulm and Sandra (Dale) Tabatt of Lewisville, MN; brother, Gary Solberg of Franklin, MN; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; in-laws, John and Burnette Odegard; sisters, Joanne Funk, Deloris Solberg, and Martha Solberg; brothers-in-law, James Funk and Walter Ellanson; sister-in-law, Dorothy Odegard; and nephew, Dale Funk.

Donald Leroy Solberg was born on June 29, 1944 to in Comfrey, MN to Emil & Berdine (Kolstad) Solberg. He graduated from high school from Hanska in 1962 and then enlisted in the United States Army, serving from 1962 to 1965. On February 5, 1966, Donald was united in marriage to Mary Jo Odegard at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in New Ulm. Their union was blessed with four children, whom Donald supported by working as a mechanic at Kraft Foods in New Ulm and at Miller Brewing Company in Albany, Georgia. In his free time, Donald enjoyed going hunting, watching and playing many different sports, completing crossword puzzles, listening to country music, and spending time with family anyway he could. Many fond memories were made going on hunting trips and trips to the lake with his family and friends, as well as all the time he was able to be with his grandkids and grand-dogs. Donald was a member of the American Legion, NRA, and Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. Donald will be dearly missed by all that knew him. Blessed be his memory.
